Ivins CERT

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CERT training cost anything?

No. Ivins/Washington County CERT classes have been free, and graduates have received a starter gear backpack.

Do I have to be physically fit?

No. There are roles for every ability: radio, record-keeping, outreach, and on-the-ground response.

Can teens join?

Ages 12–17 have been able to attend with an adult participant. FEMA also offers Teen CERT.

Do I need a key for the Hub Box?

No. A coin, flat screwdriver or pocketknife opens it.

I'm not CERT-trained. Can I still help at a Hub Box?

Yes. The system is designed so any resident can follow the instructions inside.

Will CERT replace 911?

Never. Always call 911 first. CERT supports professional responders when they're overwhelmed.

Can I take the course online?

The lectures, yes, at OnlineCERT.org. The hands-on practical still has to be done locally.
